The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood #12) by J.R. Ward

J.R. Ward's # 1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood continues as a royal bloodline is compromised by a grave threat to the throne.

Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle--with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything--and everyone--at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response--or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

I have read the entire series thus far and I've enjoyed every one ... The King is no exception!
Im going to try and write this with NO SPOILERS ... lol
I enjoyed jumping back into Wrath and Beth's story ... it's been a long time since we have ... 10 books since we've talked/read about them and their lives more fully!
I laughed and cried while reading this book.

We also followed iAm and Selena, one of the Choosen ... I hope to read more about these two!
They have a complicated relationship ...He wants her, she wants him ... His past haunts him, her future is uncertain .. this seems doomed to fail before it's even started.
I want more of their story
We also learn a little more about iAm's brother Trez ... I like this guy! I want to learn more about him and see what the future holds.
He made me laugh in this book ... all over a cat! (read it!)

Assil and Sola are another couple/not couple who's story was once again touched on briefly in The King ... Curious where this is going to lead.
You might remember them, He's a drug lord and she is a thief
Their story within this book was intense, dark, scary, emotional ...but, it ended in a most complicated and sad way in this book ....
I wonder if we'll see more of these two in future books ....?
I hope so!

and again ... Xcor and Layla, the pregnant choosen, made an appearance in this book.
Layla is pregnant with Quinn's child (one of the brotherhood) but has feelings for Xcor (one of the Band of Bastards)
While they don't take up a lot of time in this book, the role is huge.
She makes a deal with the devil so to speak ... but we are left hanging as we don't see how this panned out!

The only part I was sad about in this book is the end ... Oh, don't get me wrong, I loved how it ended for Wrath and Beth ... what made me sad is, the end skips over months but we never learn about Layla's childbirth, nor do we learn more about her deal with Xcor
Hmmmm ... this part left me wanting a little more information ... maybe it'll get answered later

Until the next book then =)
