Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye

HARD AS IT GETS (Book 1)

Tall, dark, and lethal...

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome--pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter. Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge

I had never heard of Laura Kaye when I walked into our local bookstore (a usually disappointing adventure!)
It's been a long time since I walked into that bookstore and actually walked out with a book ... it's small and they never seem to have any books that I like or want but I do enjoy the books! I love seeing all those books lined up on shelves, touching them, reading the back cover, smelling them!
On this particular day, I found HARD AS IT GETS ...
Who is this Laura Kaye woman?
Who cares! J.R. Ward's name and approval is on the front cover!

“Edgy, sexy, and full of suspense! A great read from a great new author!” – #1 NYT Bestselling Author J.R. Ward
HOT Daaaaamn!
Oooo oooo the back sounds pretty good too ... I'm buying it!
and ... so I did!

It has a little bit of everything to keep you reading and interested!
this is the story of Becca Merrit, ER Nurse searching for her missing brother,  and Nick Rixey, tarnished ex-military with a distrust for the name Merrit!
I laughed and I cried ...I fell in love with the characters, especially the dog! ;)
I couldn't wait to read more ...
so ... I ordered it online because I knew I'd be able to buy it there! Haha

HARD AS YOU CAN (book 2)

Five dishonored soldiers.

Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can—and never let go.

So, I just started reading this book yesterday, AFTER I cooked supper and cleaned ... HAHA
I've learned a thing or two over the years ... finish what you need to before starting a books you've been waiting to read!

I look forward to learning more about Shane and the other members of the team and following on their journey to clear their names....
Oh and the dog! Let's not forget the dog ;)

MY HUNGER preorder

 July 7, 2014
An Inside Out Novella in Mark's POV

While
Chris and Sara have traveled to Paris to avoid the chaos of press and
police after the tragic night we'd shared, I have stayed to face the
reality of what has happened. But there is no peace to be found in
facing the truth, and no truth to be found in the confessions that have
been made and retracted. I am a Master, all about control, and yet right
now, facing great tragedy, I feel as if I have none. With my club and
my relationships of the past in the spotlight, I find sanctuary in the
one place I've promised I will never be again, but cannot seem to
resist. Her arms.

If I were you

If I Were You (Inside Out #1)by The steamy first installment in the Inside Out erotic romance trilogy by Lisa Renee Jones, in the bestselling tradition of Fifty Shades of Grey.
When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.
Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.

I finished this book last night and my reaction was ...
WHAT?
WAIT?
Are pages missing?
There has to be more ... right?
You can't leave a girl hanging .... ooooooh I need the next book!

I mean all this is the BEST possible way ... I really enjoyed the book!
Nothing like 50 shades of Grey ... BETTER! Way better!
I love the characters, I love the story line, I love how they mix together

Sara is a schoolteacher but her real passion is art, she is a good girl who is running from her past!
Chris is an artist, one Sara has always admired, he's a bad boy with a dark side and a past he is trying to keep a secret ...
They end up on a hot and steamy journey of discovery ... of each other and themselves!
and then there is Mark.
He owns the art gallery where Rebecca worked and where Sara is now working for the summer ... He's dark, mysterious and in control ... In this book we don't learn a lot about him but he certainly plays a role in this story. What does he see in Sara, what does he want with Sara, where is this going with Sara?

oh boy, I need the other books ... SOON!
I need to know more!

I would definitely recommend this book and author Lisa Renee Jones!

Lisa Renee Jones ...

I've heard and read many great things about Lisa Renee Jones books. I've seen them in the store and they sure sound juicy! =)
Sad part was, every time I seen one in the store it was book 2 or 3 ...UGH! I wanted book ONE!
I can not start reading a series if I know I don't have book one, I just can't!
I finally decided my best option was to order online!
OK, not a big deal but I had to wait until there was more books I wanted to order online (I really like the free shipping when you order so much ... and really, it means MORE BOOKS!)

Finally ordered 'If I Were You'
of course, I also ordered J.R. Ward's 'The King'
OH MY GAWD! what do I do?
So I read the King first and a good thing because as it turned out when I finished that one and started this one, I HAD NO PLANS so I could read read read all I want! YAY! lol
So I started reading it ... and OH BOY it's juicy from the beginning!
~happy dance~
for those who haven't read it:

"When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.

Yum right?
I'd been enjoying the book but as with most days, life and responsibility get in the way (LOL)
When I finally sat down yesterday to read some more deliciousness, with my tea in hand ... I HAD AN ACCIDENT!
My tea spilled all over my book!
I panicked! Not for the hot tea on my leg but for my book!
'No no no no ... oh my book'
My husband was more concerned for my leg ... lol

my book will never look the same!!!
I have a new ROMANCE HERO ... my hubby!
While I was cleaning up the tea on the table and the floor he was in the bathroom with my book and my hairdryer!
He was fanning out the pages and blowing them dry!
I have to tell you that there is something extremely endearing, heart warming, and romantic about seeing your man dry your book!
I sure do love that man! ~muah~

So, my pages are a little less flexible but the books is still very readable and so I continued on the adventure!
I am a little over a third of the way through the book and I can't wait to dive back into this story!
I haven't even gotten to anything REALLY juicy yet ...lol
This tells me that the story line is good because I want to keep reading to see what happens to Sara, Chris and Mark ... oh and of course, I want to see if she solves the mystery of Rebecca!

Until later ...

The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood #12) by J.R. Ward

J.R. Ward's # 1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood continues as a royal bloodline is compromised by a grave threat to the throne.

Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle--with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything--and everyone--at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response--or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

I have read the entire series thus far and I've enjoyed every one ... The King is no exception!
Im going to try and write this with NO SPOILERS ... lol
I enjoyed jumping back into Wrath and Beth's story ... it's been a long time since we have ... 10 books since we've talked/read about them and their lives more fully!
I laughed and cried while reading this book.

We also followed iAm and Selena, one of the Choosen ... I hope to read more about these two!
They have a complicated relationship ...He wants her, she wants him ... His past haunts him, her future is uncertain .. this seems doomed to fail before it's even started.
I want more of their story
We also learn a little more about iAm's brother Trez ... I like this guy! I want to learn more about him and see what the future holds.
He made me laugh in this book ... all over a cat! (read it!)

Assil and Sola are another couple/not couple who's story was once again touched on briefly in The King ... Curious where this is going to lead.
You might remember them, He's a drug lord and she is a thief
Their story within this book was intense, dark, scary, emotional ...but, it ended in a most complicated and sad way in this book ....
I wonder if we'll see more of these two in future books ....?
I hope so!

and again ... Xcor and Layla, the pregnant choosen, made an appearance in this book.
Layla is pregnant with Quinn's child (one of the brotherhood) but has feelings for Xcor (one of the Band of Bastards)
While they don't take up a lot of time in this book, the role is huge.
She makes a deal with the devil so to speak ... but we are left hanging as we don't see how this panned out!

The only part I was sad about in this book is the end ... Oh, don't get me wrong, I loved how it ended for Wrath and Beth ... what made me sad is, the end skips over months but we never learn about Layla's childbirth, nor do we learn more about her deal with Xcor
Hmmmm ... this part left me wanting a little more information ... maybe it'll get answered later

Until the next book then =)

A Note from Laura:
Hey guys! I am so excited about Easy’s book that I can hardly wait for August to get here! Easy’s character was a total surprise to me. When I initially plotted out the series, there were four surviving members of the Army Special Forces team and therefore I planned for and sold four book in the series. But then, when I sat down to write Hard As It Gets, all of a sudden the story demanded there were actually five guys, and Edward “Easy” Cantrell was born. And I’m so glad! Because Easy’s character is a totally tortured hero, which I adore writing! So I’m super happy that we added his story and this novella into the series, and I can’t wait for you to learn about Easy in Hard to Hold On To! Is it August yet??? xo, Laura Praise for the Hard Ink Series: For Hard As You Can: "TOP PICK! There is a sinister and desperate edge to this tale that will keep readers glued to their seats. Kaye has dark romantic suspense nailed!" ~ RT Book Reviews Magazine "Hard As You Can is another five star read. The characters Ms. Kaye has created are wonderfully broken and the drama is gritty, but the burgeoning romance and the tight-knitted relationship of the team leaves you with a sense of redemption. A must read series!" ~San Francisco Book Review For Hard As It Gets: "Edgy, sexy and full of suspense! A great read from a great new author!" ~ #1 NYT Bestselling Author J.R. Ward "Sizzling romance... The intriguing tattoo parlor and military background will appeal to fans of Suzanne Brockmann and Lindsay McKenna." ~Publishers Weekly Review "Kaye's depiction of sexual tension and her sex scenes are masterful and this will appeal to fans of Maya Banks' KGIand Julia Ann Walker's Black Knight's series." ~Booklist Laura-Kaye-croppedAbout Laura Kaye: Laura is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over a dozen books in contemporary and paranormal romance. Currently reading ...

J.R. Ward's THE KING
book 12 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series

I've read the entire series so far and have loved them all!
I love her version of 'vampires' it's unique and sexy ... believable (if your mind wanders like that)
I have never put another book away to start another (I also never read two books at the same time ... I always feel like I am cheating)

When this book came in, I had pre ordered it, I actually put another book away I was so desperate to get my hands on this one ... LOL
I am thoroughly enjoying this book ... I've laughed and cried ... I even ~sighed~ a few times!

Books books and more books ...

I love my books!
While most of the time they are on their shelves waiting to be read (or loaned out to my most trusted book friends) I do enjoy using them as props or decor!
My favorite genre is probably Historical Romance ... but not just any historical romance will do! Nope! I prefer Scottish or English Historical and preferably pre 1800s ... but there are times when I will venture out of that zone but the history and story better be good!
While I like the romance ... I also enjoy a good Historical Fiction as well! Again, Scottish and English preferably! =)
I enjoy Paranormal/Fantasy romance as well ... Karen Marie Moning was the second author I read after Diana Gabaldon. I read her HIGHLANDER series, which is full of time travel, fae, druids and more.
She later started her FEVER series ... lots of fae, magic, and more
I enjoy some vampire romance but I want it to be different than Bram Stokers Dracula!
Sherrilyn Kenyon and JR Ward are among my favorites for vampires.
Vampires, werewolves, shifters, dragons, fae, oh my! Yes please!!! ~mmmm~
When it comes to paranormal/fantasy romance ... I also enjoy YA books as I find some of them are by far more creative and have much more fantasy!
Contemporary Erotic romance and Chick Lit are new genres for me in the past couple years and so far I am enjoying them both.
Of course, on occasion, I find a good and delicious book in the plain old Fiction section. =)

The book that started it all ...

Hello and welcome to part two of my blogging existence ... the BOOK BLOG!
I thought I might try having a blog dedicated to my books ... what I'm reading, what I've read, what I want to read, etc!

I love books! Hardcover, paperback, epub ... it doesn't much matter so long as it's a good book (in one of my favorite genres) and I am comfy ;)

I didn't start, or even like, reading until I was an adult. I hated being told what to read, how much to read, when to read ... and I certainly didn't enjoy the books we HAD to read in school!
I'm certainly not a fast reader either, I take my time so that I fully enjoy the book and absorb the magic of the story.

The book that changed it all for me is OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon!

I was in my early 20's and my twin sister (she loved reading) told me to give it a try ...what harm was there in TRYING?
Ok fine, if you'll leave me alone and stop bugging me, I'll take your crazy book and give it a try!
I figured I'd read a few pages, get bored and never look back!
OH HOW WRONG I WAS ...

I started reading that book and fell in love ... in love with the story, the characters, the magic!
Oh my, I couldnt believe it ... I was reading and I was LOVING it!
I begged my sister for the other books ...
I bought the books for myself ...
I haven't looked back ... I've been reading every since ... more more more ... I can't get enough!
So I have to thank my sister for introducing a new world to me AND Diana Gabaldon

Aug 2000 - Fergus Highland Games, Fergus Ontario Canada
It was a thrill to meet her in 2000!
to date she is the ONLY author I've stood in line to meet (or met for that matter) and the only one to sign a book for me
I do hope to change that in the future though ;)

So, this is the start of my BOOK BLOG ... in the future I'll talk about my bookshelves (I love them and my hubby for buying me more and more of them ... such a romantic guy!)
What books I have on my shelves and what I am reading ... My hope is, in the future, to start actual book reviews!
I'm not great with words but I sure know how to talk ...haha

Thank you for stopping by ... Cheers and HAPPY READING
